ISO 45001 has replaced OHSAS 18001 and will afford organisations an opportunity to align their strategic direction with their health and safety management system thereby improving their occupational health and safety performance.

This two-day course will provide delegates who have completed previous Auditor training courses in Occupational Health Management Systems with the skills, knowledge and expertise needed to understand and audit against, the new standard framework Annex SL in ISO 45001:2018.

It is ideally suited for existing OHSAS 18001 Internal and Lead Auditors who want to understand the requirements in the new standard and the skills needed to audit against ISO 45001:2018 based OHSMS requirements.

ISO 45001:2018 is the first internationally recognised worldwide standard on Occupational Health and Safety that will enable organisations, regardless of context and size, to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their workers, visitors, contractors and other interested parties to prevent death, work-related injury, ill -health and to continually improve its OH&S performance.

The structure of ISO 45001 is based on Annex SL format and terminology. Annex SL was developed to ensure that all ISO management system standards share a common format irrespective of the specific discipline to which they relate.

ISO 45001 has introduced a number of enhanced requirements as follows:

  • Understanding the organisational context
  • Understanding the needs and expectations of interested parties
  • Leadership and commitment
  • Participation and consultation
  • Documented information
  • Eliminating hazards and reducing OH&S risks
  • Management of change
  • Procurement
  • Contractors
  • Outsourcing

The requirements contained within ISO 45001 can be broadly classified into those which have arisen from using Annex SL as a foundation for the standard and those relating to OHS standard specific requirements.  Annex SL was developed as a generic framework for management system standards (MSSs) to ensure that all future MSSs have the same look and feel by using common terms and definitions and identical core text and language.

As ISO 45001 is adopting this relatively new Annex SL framework, it is expected to have a profound effect on organizations implementing the OHSAS 18001 standard and those auditing against the requirements of the standard. Bearing this in mind, auditors will need to ensure they are prepared for this.

In this course you will learn how to audit the key differences between OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 45001.

There are two modules which are combined providing all elements of both modules in full to include the following:

Module 1 – covering changes arising as a result of the adaption of Annex SL

Module 2 – covering changes arising as a result of changes to the standard-specific content.
