QFD or Quality Function Deployment was originally developed in Japan in 1966 by Doctor Joki Akao. This cross functional, team based methodology is a key tool in New Product/Service Design and Development.

QFD transforms customer needs into a prioritized set of critical customer product or service characteristics, identifies in turn a prioritized set of corresponding critical process characteristics, and lastly identifies a prioritized set of corresponding critical process controls. It operates a cascading approach to ensure structured design planning and proactive correlation between the different phases of the Design effort as follows;

1.QFD

The overall objective is to ensure that key customer needs are met in a cost effective and efficient manner by the organisation. QFD also assures alignment, communication, and commitment throughout the entire development program and avoids some of the last minute quality problems that occur during new product/service launches.

This one-day course is designed as a fundamental introduction to the concepts and methodology involved in QFD. The course delivery deploys a combination of basic theory, brainstorming sessions and practical case studies.

  • Understand the role of QFD in ensuring effective new product/service Design and Development
  • Understand the critical importance of QFD in preventing product/service launch issues by proactively planning and deploying those critical controls necessary to ensure focus on critical process characteristics that are linked to critical product/service characteristics that customers require.
  • Understand how QFD can be used as a risk assessment tool to allow trade-offs among product/service characteristics to be evaluated and decided upon.
  • Illustrate how QFD incorporates competitive analysis to identify not only current but future customer needs.
  • Enable the step by step approach of QFD to be replicated in a real Project.
  • Actively participate and contribute to QFD Project Teams.
